For the purposes of granting the Italian citizenship, the residency in the territory of the Republic for a minimum period of ten years set out in the rule referred to in art. 9, paragraph 1, letter. F of Law no. 91/1992 is only a prerequisite for the lodgement of the application that is subject to a wide discretionary assessment on the reasons that would move a foreigner to apply for the Italian nationality, as well as their capability of fulfilling their duties as part of the national community.
